Description of the RefoBlast

Blood plasma can be used in a variety of ways after donation and forms the basis for various life-saving medicines or can be transfused directly. In order to maintain the quality and effectiveness of the blood plasma, it must be frozen quickly and in a controlled manner before storage.

The RefoBlast was developed precisely for this purpose. This sustainable rapid blast freezer cools blood plasma bags and bottles with maximum efficiency to a core temperature of -25 °C. The RefoBlast has minimal space and service requirements and is also free from environmental regulations due to the refrigerant used.

Each RefoBlast features two independent freezing chambers, each equipped with its own refrigeration unit. The machines use the natural refrigerant propane (R290) and are unaffected by the EU F-Gas phase-down and potential PFAS restrictions under REACH. Due to the low amount of propane per hermetically sealed refrigerant circuit, the RefoBlast is also not subject to any additional safety requirements or installation conditions.

The compact design of the RefoBlast allows it to be accommodated on a footprint of less than 5 square meters, including the service area and door opening. Several freezers can be placed directly next to each other for easy scaling for larger donation centers. The air-cooled machines do not require cooling water; temperature control of the installation room is sufficient. This is easier to implement than a separate cold water supply, especially in rented premises. If a cold water supply is available, the RefoBlast can be ordered as a water-cooled version, also to enable the waste heat to be used for heating purposes.

To simplify service, the refrigeration units can be easily exchanged on-site as modules without the need for specialized personnel. The replaced units are then repaired at the factory.

Construction & freezing performance

The RefoBlast has two independent freezing compartments, each equipped with its own refrigeration unit. It is designed for freezing blood plasma in bottles and bags with a maximum volume of 850 ml. Approximately 25 kg of product can be brought to a core temperature of -25 °C within 4 hours per compartment and batch. This corresponds to 30 bottles or bags of 850 ml each. By varying the load, either the freezing time can be shortened or the product quantity can be increased, flexible matching to your specifications.

Installation & minimum space requirement

Ultra-compact design with a minimum footprint of less than 5 square meters, including service area and door clearance.
The freezer cells can be positioned directly next to each other without spacing, allowing for flexible and demand-based expansion of freezing capacity.

The small charge of refrigerant in the hermetically sealed refrigerant circuits enables flexible installation without safety restrictions.
The air-cooled units do not require cooling water; ,merely the installation room needs to be temperature-controlled.

Freezing technology & simple service

Thanks to the refrigerant propane (R290), the freezer is environmentally friendly and there are no current or future restrictions due to the EU F-Gas Regulation and the REACH PFAS regulation.

The refrigeration system can be replaced on site as simple modules, without the need for certified refrigeration technicians. Replaced systems can be repaired by the manufacturer or by specialized refrigeration companies.

Energy efficiency

Thanks to the efficient refrigerant, high-quality insulation with 160 mm PU foam panels, and minimal surface area, the RefoBlast sets new standards in efficiency. The low energy consumption of the refrigeration units results in low operating costs.

Freezable products

  • Plasma-bags

    The RefoBlast is designed for blood plasma bags with a product volume of 850 ml.

    Up to 30 bags can be distributed on the trays. A very high air exchange rate ensures homogeneous and rapid freezing of each bag.

  • Plasma-bottles

    Using the same racking system, 850 ml blood plasma bottles can also be placed upright with just two trays.

    Up to 40 bottles can be distributed across the two trays, each measuring 450 mm by 600 mm. By reducing the number of bottles, the freezing time can be shortened.

  • Flexible shelving system

    The flexible shelving system in the 160 l (net) freezer room allows for the freezing of many other products. From high-quality foods like blueberries, which are shock-frozen immediately after harvesting, to cold packs for last-mile delivery services. Contact us, and we'll find a solution for your product!
