High Performance Low temperature Steel hardening system energetically optimised for minimum operating costs in the temperature range down to -140 °C.
Treatment of steel after hardening at cryogenic temperatures leads to greater hardness and wear resistance, as a higher proportion of austenite can be converted into martensite. The cryogenic treatment of steel takes place at -70 °C to -120 °C for a period of one hour and leads to a conversion of residual austenite into martensite, a higher hardness and improved dimensional stability. The cold treatment is mainly carried out with liquid nitrogen. The nitrogen consumption is considerable and leads to high operating costs.
We have developed a new concept for a quick cooling chamber that uses only air as a refrigerant for temperatures between -40 °C and -120 °C with the cold air machine from Mirai Intex. In cryogenic steel hardening, the cooling chamber consists of two rooms separated by a permeable barrier so that two different batches can be hardened in one machine. Before another batch is cooled down to the required temperature using the cold air chiller, a heat exchange takes place between the warm new batch and the already cold finished batch. This saves some of the cooling capacity required for cooling and further reduces operating costs. Our solution is more efficient than existing technologies across a wide temperature range. As only air is used as a refrigerant, it is also free of regulations, safe for the environment and requires little maintenance.
The chamber consists of sturdy insulating panels with impact protection and is mounted on a mobile base frame.
The refrigeration technology used is efficient cold air refrigeration technology from Mirai Intex. This is oil-free, low-vibration and uses air as a refrigerant. As a result, it is free from refrigerant regulations and the speed-controlled turbo compressor allows flexible temperature settings down to -140 °C. In addition, a high cooling rate can be realised if required.
Our systems come with an industrial control system from Siemens including operating panel, LED lamps and acoustic signalling device. This enables the system to be operated quickly and easily. The system operator is informed about the status of the system via the signal lights and can also intervene manually in the process at the operating panel via the authorisation levels.
Reliable, durable, efficient and safe for people and the environment!
Thanks to the separation of the cold and hot oven and the double chamber system, the energy from previous batches can be recovered and used to pre-cool the next batch. This can save up to 60% energy.
The system design of the cold air chiller from Mirai Intex utilises the air in the chamber as the refrigerant. The chamber is cooled by extracting heated air, which is then reintroduced via the Mirai Intex "Snow Catcher" after cooling. The system enables a continuous process without defrosting and impresses with its high temperature stability.
A ceiling fan specially developed for this application ensures a high circulation rate in the chamber and optimum temperature distribution.
Air as a refrigerant is free of charge, free of regulations and safe. The systems are robust and specially designed for low temperatures.
